Project Summary

Bailey Edward, as a long-term partner with the Champaign Community Unit School District No. 4, has performed architectural services for multiple facilities in the district including four new facilities over the last decade. Bailey Edward provided full architectural services for a ten-year health and life safety survey of nineteen schools. Associated budgets and phasing, accompanied the strategic plans for correction and renovation work. Bailey Edward continues to execute portions of the work outlined in the survey for the schools.

Current activities for the district include Associate Architect work on two new schools and four school additions. The scope includes programming, community workshops, design developments, construction documents, specifications, bidding and construction administration. Bailey Edward works closely with the contractor, Interim Business Manager and Director of Facilities to coordinate the work with school activities.

Design Vignette

As a part of the School District’s philosophy to stay abreast of current educational trends, Bailey Edward focused on designing for the Champaign Early Learning Center a building that incorporated sustainable design and a sense of community in a fun and secure environment. The design creates a community for the children by turning the corridors into streets complete with “street lighting” and houses. Office spaces become “homes” in the corridor, fitted out with divided windows, unique paint colors and “roofs”.
