Bailey Edward and Partners for Sacred Places hosted their first annual conference focused on providing congregations with a crash course on how to best leverage houses of worship to maximize community impact. With over 150 attendees at the free one-day event, faith leaders had the opportunity to network with local leaders in preservation, community development and philanthropy.

The day began with a keynote address from Partners' Executive Vice President, Tuomi Forrest, who introduced the Economic Halo Effect research and methodology. Next, Bailey Edward Principal, Robin Whitehurst, and Partners' Vice President for Philanthropy and Business Development, Gianfranco Grande, introduced fundamentals of space sharing with community groups as well as with other congregations.

During lunch attendees mingled with vendors ranging from structural engineers to stained glass experts, painting conservators to roofers. Afternoon panels provided attendees with practical advice on how to best implement licensing and legal issues followed by insights on how to identify and secure funding.

At the close of the conference, finalists for the first annual Halo Award were recognized. The finalists honored exhibited innovative strategies for using their space to create a better life for those in their community. Saint Pius V Parish of Pilsen was selected as the Halo Award winner, Father Charles Dahm was presented with an award and a check for $1,000.

The second annual conference is scheduled for October 23 and 24, 2013. Details about the 2013 conference will be made available to the public shortly.
