National Institute of Building Science’s Building Innovation Conference and Expo: August 17, 2020, Arlington, VA:
Convergence of Design and Resilience in a Hospital for the Future + Minimally Invasive Laboratories

Bailey Edward's Robin Whitehurst and Carlos Amato of Cannon Design will be joined by Judy Ou of Perkins Eastman Architects to discuss the ways hospitals can be designed not only to accommodate current state-of-the-art technology and practices, but also be flexible in a way that prepares for the future of healthcare. Using University of Illinois at Chicago’s Surgical Innovation and Training Laboratory as well as the New Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California as examples, Robin, Carlos, and Judy will explore how healthcare design can develop both new technologies and the next generation of doctors.

Indiana Landmarks Preservation Conference: October 14, 2020, South Bend, IN:
Transforming Ruins into a Welcoming Place

No time to dilly dally in DC, Robin! Just a week after speaking at the Building Innovation Conference, Robin will be at Indiana Landmarks Preservation Conference with Kevin Osburn, principal of Rundell Ernstberger Associates, to explore the processes needed to transform historical ruins such as the former City United Methodist Church in Gary, Indiana into safe and accessible community spaces for all to enjoy.

Active Learning Spaces for Higher Education: Research-Based Design

On the other side of the country in sunny Los Angeles, founding Principal Ellen Dickson will be joining University of Illinois at Chicago’s Assistant Director for Project Management – Architecture Walter Hainsfurther and Associate Director of the Office of Capital Programs and Project Management William Bradford as they lay out the evidenced-based design that led to more successful large-scale learning environments.
