Events | Celebrating Illini Accomplishments
As a woman-owned firm, Bailey Edward understands the important contributions women have brought to architecture. And so does the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The UIUC School of Architecture is celebrating its female alumnae and their accomplishments this weekend at the Women's Reunion and Symposium. With several Illini women on staff including, but not limited to, Designers Stephanie Rydecki, Meghna Majethiya, and of course, our managing principal Ellen Dickson, Bailey Edward contributed to the celebrations by sharing a few projects they have worked on since graduating. If you are in the Urbana-Champaign area this weekend, September 27-29, consider stopping by the Krannert Art Museum to see Stephanie, Meghna, and Ellen's accomplishments!
Stephanie Rydecki will be sharing her contributions as Job Captain to the Paul Findley Building restorations. Built in 1930 with combined Federalist, Neoclassical, and Art Deco styles, the building is primarily used by the U.S. Courthouse system. Stephanie provided drafting and production assistance on all construction documents, wrote field reports, coordinated meetings, and conducted on-site condition assessments and reports as part of a design-build approach with Hydro-tech Inc., to identify associate costs for repairing the facade and other non-masonry items and then to prioritize the rehabilitation of the building.
As a more recent graduate from the UIUC School of Architecture, Meghna Majethiya's work represents the accomplishments of the younger generation in architecture. Meghna served as Job Captain for the Illinois State Fair Coliseum renovations and repair, working to bring the Coliseum back to its glory days by assisting with construction administration activities including maintaining submittal logs, RFI logs, RFP-CO logs, punch lists, as well as attending on-site meetings with the construction team.
Finally, Ellen Dickson will share her work as lead designer and programmer of the Illinois National Guard Readiness Center and Army Aviation Support Facility in Kankakee, IL. As the first combined Army and Army Aviation support facility in the nation, this new facility houses UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and Army battalions. Ellen facilitated the design charette, led the design team, developed the plan, form, and exterior envelope design, and assisted the brainstorming session of the value management session.
