Projects | ENR Best of the Best Awards Gala
National recognition and a night out in New York City proved a well-deserved treat for Ellen Dickson, who attended the Engineering News Record (ENR) Award of Excellence Gala. Ellen joined Henry Ryan from The George Sollitt Construction Company and Steve Rhoades of IMEG Corp to celebrate their accomplishments on the Illinois National Guard Readiness Center and Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) in Kankakee. The project earned the ENR Best of the Best Award for the Government / Public Building category.
The ENR Best of the Best awards is a national program where 800 candidates pooled from the winners of the regional awards program compete for nationwide honors. The Readiness Center and AASF was the recipient of the ENR Midwest Best Projects Award for Government / Public buildings and elevated to the national award pool. Across the nation, only 20 projects received the national title of the Best of the Best Projects. Congratulations to the entire team of consultants who were a part of the Readiness Center and AASF for their exemplary work.
There were many incredible projects and inspiring people honored at the awards gala. Perhaps one of the most moving awards was the winner of the 2019 Award of Excellence, Vicki O’Leary. O’Leary is a Chicago union ironworker of over 30 years who advocated for women in the trade industry. Her program, Be That One Guy, trains on-site workers how to stand up for women. O’Leary’s program draws attention to the state of women in the trade industry, pinpointing deficiencies such as harassment, maternity leave, and low retention. Through O’Leary’s efforts, safety and professionalism are promoted across the industry. Read the full article about Vicki O’Leary and the Be That One Guy program.
