Guidelines Garner 'Best Practice' Award Recognition
Bailey Edward, in association with The Lakota Group, prepared The Naperville Historic Building Design and Resource Manual (Guidelines) to address appropriate preservation procedures and methods for alterations, changes and additions to properties located within the Local Historic District. The Guidelines also serve as an educational document that encourage appropriate maintenance and rehabilitation consistent with a building’s historic architectural style, character and scale of the existing historic neighborhood.
Bailey Edward and The Latoka Group attended meetings with City staff to discuss the project timeline, structure, format and general content of design guidelines; then, conducted a drive-through of the Historic District and adjacent historic neighborhoods in central Naperville. Development of the Guidelines also included introduction of the project to the Historic District residents and the community at-large, which involved workshops to obtain input regarding residents’ needs and expectations.
The Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association has honored The City of Naperville Historic Sites Commission with a 'Best Practice' Award for their Historic Preservation Initiatives. The Guidelines, prepared by Bailey Edward and The Lakota Group, are a contributing component of the Historic Preservation Initiatives.
