Project Summary

As part of this project, Bailey Edward conducted a field survey of several building exteriors in the commercial district of Archer Avenue in Chicago, Illinois with the intent of improving the appearance of both the individual storefronts and the neighborhood itself. CAD drafting of each building's facade is being executed based on field dimensions.

These facades are being designed to meet applicable code and zoning ordinances, with accompanying proposed scopes of work being developed for each facade within the project. Meetings with each client and Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council are ensuring that design aesthetic and budgetary requirements are met.

Design Vignette

The elevations included as part of this project are designed to reflect the guidelines establish through the City of Chicago Facade Rebate Program. One focus of the suggested improvements is to re-establish the historic sign band region that is consistent throughout most of these older brick buildings. The addition of awnings and smaller blade signs is also suggested as an improvement option since these types of signs are approved by the City of Chicago Facade Design Guidelines.
